Connect Email Design Tool Changes 2023

Connect’s new drag and drop tool will be replacing the previous version, with a retirement date currently scheduled for 31st July 2023.

Why is this happening?

The third-party tool that is currently used to give Connect its drag and drop functionality is retiring and will no longer be supported. Therefore, we have introduced a a new design tool which offers feature parity with a more modern user interface.

Info

Throughout this page we will be referring to the different design versions as:

Legacy design tool: Connect’s retiring drag and drop design tool.

Legacy templates: Templates created in the retiring drag and drop design tool.

New drag and drop designer: The new drag and drop designer that will be replacing the retiring version.

New drag and drop templates: Templates created in the new drag and drop designer.

What does this mean for me?

Within the week commencing Monday 3rd April 2023 the first stage of updates will be applied to Connect

  • At this stage users will be able to pick between the legacy design tool and the new drag and drop designer to create email templates.
  • Users will be able to edit and update templates created in the legacy design tool.
  • Campaigns created in CRM can include a mixture of both legacy and new drag and drop templates.

In late July 2023 the legacy design tool will be retiring

  • Users can no longer create new templates, or edit existing designs created in the legacy design tool.
  • New templates can only be created using the new drag and drop designer.
  • Campaigns created in CRM can include a mixture of both legacy and new drag and drop templates.

How can I prepare?

  • To prepare for these changes, we suggest that new email templates are created using the new drag and drop tool as soon as possible.
  • If you have a template that is used regularly we suggest recreating it in the new drag and drop designer as soon as possible.

Tip

It will not be possible to transfer templates from the legacy designer over to the new drag and drop tool. We have made these changes at the earliest opportunity to give you enough time to recreate your favourite and most-used email templates.

I’ve got automated campaigns running, how will they be affected?

Any legacy templates you have included as part of an automated campaign will still continue to send to your recipients as normal.

After the retirement date you will not be able to edit or update legacy templates, but you can still add them to Campaign Stages.

What does this look like in Connect?

When you create a new template you will see the usual ‘select a designer’ options. Clicking on ‘Drag & Drop’ will open the new drag and drop designer.

Until late July 2023 you will still be able to create new templates in the legacy designer by clicking on ‘Legacy Drag and Drop designer’.

When in the Connect template library, each template card is labelled with ‘Legacy Drag & Drop’ and ‘Drag & Drop’ to make it easy to differentiate between the two designers.

Legacy Drag & Drop: Templates created in Connect’s retiring drag and drop design tool.

Drag & Drop: Templates created in the new drag and drop designer.

Tip

We recommend creating any new templates in the new drag and drop designer. Any new templates created in the legacy design tool will not editable after the retirement date.

The new drag and drop designer is user-intuitive and offers a range of new templates to help you get started. For help on how to create templates, take a look at our Drag & Drop Email Editor page here.
