Modern Authentication Overview

Gold-Vision 8 supports Modern Authentication (OAuth 2.0) for Mail Tracking and Calendar Synchronisation.

Basic Authentication Vs Modern Authentication

Companies that use Active Directory for identity management have relied on Basic Authentication to give users access to workstations, network resources and other services within the environment. This legacy authentication approach is not seen as secure enough as online services become widely used.  Microsoft recognized the high risk associated with Basic Authentication and has pushed for a shift to the more secure Modern Authentication.

Timing

Basic Authentication support for Office 365 retired in October 2022, which means that companies need to complete changes to Modern Authentication if they haven’t done so already.

Note via Microsoft: “On September 1, 2022, we announced there will be one final opportunity to postpone this change. Tenants will be allowed to re-enable a protocol once between October 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. Any protocol exceptions or re-enabled protocols will be turned off early in January 2023, with no possibility of further use.”
